1.What is asset exchange?
Asset exchange is when one member uses another member's assets and transfers reciplocation points into their account. The most common asset are people's houses; but cars, campervans, yachts, boats, hotel rooms, holidays and tours etc can also be included.
The means instead of people going out and buying/renting lots of new toys, they can simply exchange them and save themselves lots of money in the process. Using your assets in this manner when they are idle, means you can actually receive some productive income from something that previously just cost you money!
Of course asset exchange does not suit everyone, and our members tend to be open to meeting new people and also require a certain degree of trust and confidence to let others use their assets - although reciplocation.com's unique system means you can still be a member and use member's assets, but not have people use your assets, if you so wish.
2.How does reciplocation.com’s asset exchange system work?
To join our membership (free), you fill
in our online registration form, which asks for some personal details
and also details of your listing/s (if you choose to list your asset).
We give you an account with a zero point balance. 1 point = $1USD. Points are then transferred into your account when another member uses your assets, or you can simply purchase points online yourself. Or you can do absolutely
nothing and just browse our pages until you stumble across a fantastic asset!
Once your listing is on our website others can view your asset
and brief details (not exact geographical position, address or contact details). They can then
contact you via our admin mail centre, if they wish to use your asset. Or if you find an asset that meets you criteria, you can complete
our online from that is emailed to the owner, and set up your exchange.
When someone uses your asset, your account is credited with
the total points charged for the exvhange. For example, if you list your home as your asset, and you set your daily rate at $75 points, and
someone stays for 4 days, then your account will be credited with $300 points.
Similarly, if you stay in someone’s home, your account is debited.
Reciplocation deducts $10 points from your account every time poits are transferred into or out of your account.
After the exchange has been completed, we ask both parties to
leave feedback on a/ the asset they used (accuracy of info and
rate), and b/ the member who used their asset (cleanliness and
respect for others' property). This helps other members make decisions
with exchanges at a later date.
You can also use our site to rent your asset in the conventional manner if you wish - you simply cash in your account after the money has been transferred following an exchange.
3.How do I Exchange?
1. You must be a member to exchange. 2. Click "listings search" and browse our listings using our advanced search functions, to check for an asset that suits your needs.
3. If you wish to request an exchange, click "contact owner", fill in your details, and click “submit”. We email this form on your behalf to the respective member.
4. You will receive an email from reciplocation advising you that the member you emailed has replied, with a link to see their message. 5. You can discuss your exchange plans together.
6. Once you have agreed on your exchange, both parties confirm the details on our online exchange form. This includes how much deposit (if any) is to be charged, and the dates for when points are to be transferred
7. You accounts are automatically updated, a small fee is deducted from your account balance, and you a free to experience fantastic holidays/experiences!
4.How much does it cost and how do I pay?
Membership is free. Thereafter, a small fee of $10USD is deducted from your account when points are transferred either into or out of your account. In this way, if you do not exchange, you do not pay a cent. Fees: (deducted from your account automatically)
$10 USD whenever points are transferred into or out of your account.
The situations where money is transferred into your account are: a/ when another member uses your assets and points are transferred from their account into your account; or b/ when you purchase points (although we do not charge for this). The situations where points are transferred out of your account are: a/ when you use another member's assets and points are transferred out of your account into their account; or b/ when you cash in your points.
To pay, you can choose paypal, or telegraphic transfer to our account. Paypal accept all major credit and debit cards, and is a secure site.
5.Who can join reciplocation.com Membership?
Membership is open to anyone. The success of the our website is based on people sharing with one another for the common good. This requires a great deal of trust between members, and members are encouraged to leave feedback after an exchange for others to view. It is not necessary to list your asset if you do not want to have others use it. Nor is it necessary to use other members' assets if you have account points in credit. You may simply purchase points, or redeem your account points for money respectively.
6. Do you have to have an asset/house to join?
No. You can simply purchase points online and have these transferred into the owner's account when you use their asset.
7.Who is a typical member?
A large proportion of our members are aircrew, or family of aircrew who have access to Industry discount concessionary travel. They combine their cheap air tickets with virtually free asset swaps to have fantastic cheap holidays and experiences.
Other members are retired and see exchanging as a great way to have an experience, see the country, or indeed the world, without blowing the budget.
One thing we ask of all our members is to have a respect for other members’ property, and to treat other peoples’ assets as if they were your own. With everyone sharing that attitude, we find very few problems arising amongst our members.
8.How Do I know I can trust a person to use my asset/s?
This is a great question, and also a question that nearly everyone asks about asset exchange. Theft and damage of property are extremely rare amongst our members. If acts such as these are reported to us, the members responsible will be evicted from the site immediately.
There are some basic precautions we recommend our members take before making your asset available to others - for houses: lock away all valuable items (jewellery etc), and protect any personal files/papers and files on your computer. Some people have visitors sign in on their computers as a guest with their own passwords. For vehicles: make sure you have the appropriate insurance before exchanging.
We have taken every precaution to ensure members’ safety when asset exchanging using our site. If a member has an interest in using your asset, their initial emails are sent to you via our website – so you know they are legitimate enquiries. On the email you receive, you have a link that you can view the member’s introduction, and feedback. This is feedback provided by other members after they have exchanged with this person – similar to ebay. You would then exchange messages with the member using our mail system and develop a certain rapport. Of course, it is entirely up to you whether you choose to accept this person for exchanging.
After the person has used your asset, you will be asked to leave feedback – simply to say the member left your asset clean and tidy and in the manner you would expect. They will similarly leave comments about your asset. These comments are to ensure that members charge the correct rates for their assets, and provide accurate information about them.
Lastly, it is important to think a little sensibly about trust - it is extremely improbable that someone will take the time and effort to become a member of our website, travel across the world to visit your home, and then pinch your flat screen television set!
9. Do I have any say in who uses my assets?
Yes, of course. You have absolute say in who you let use your assets. When someone requests to exchange, we provide a link for you to check other members' feedback comments about that particular person. You then communicate by email or skype and develop a rapport, on which you may base you final decision.
What we do ask is for members to show common courtesy. If, for whatever reason, you can not accommodate a request from a member, then please reply with an email. A simple “I am sorry but your request does not fit with my plans” is sufficient.
10.What about our pets if I list a house? Who looks after them?
It is entirely up to you. Some members choose to have their pets looked after by friends, put into pet accommodation or looked after by the people visiting their home. It should soon be apparent the best option after emailing with the people visiting your home.
11.Should we include our car in a home exchange?
It is entirely up to individual members whether they include cars in an exchange or not. It is up to the individual car owners to ensure their insurance details are in order. One possibility is to list your car as a seperate asset and charge extra points.
12.What household items are included specifically for a home exchange?
Normally everyday items such as tea and coffee are included, and visiting members are free to use kitchen utensils to cook etc. Washing machines are always welcomed by visitors. Sheets are normally changed before the people arrive in your home, and put in the washing machine when they leave. Our best advice is to use members' homes as you would like another person to use yours, and to apply common sense.
13. What about keys, and using appliances in my home? It is up to members to communicate information with each other regarding keys and appliances. Some people leave their keys with a neighbour or family member, or arrange someone to be there when the guests arrive.
Members normally leave instructions on how to operate the TV/ water heating/ electrics or any specific quirks that their home may have.
14. Can I rent my asset using reciplocation.com? Yes. A member will use your asset in the normal manner, transferring points into your account. If you do not want to use your points to use someone else's assets, you can simply transfer the money from your Reciplocation account to your bank account or paypal account.
15. Do I need to list aa asset to become a Member? No, you can simply deposit money into your account and this is transferred to the member's account when you use their assets. Using reciplocation.com is a lot more cost effective than staying in hotels, or renting cars for example.
16. Is the money in my account safe? If you purchased reciplocation points with money, then your money is held in either the paypal account in which you deposited it, or in a secure HSBC account in HSBC main offices, Hong Kong. Money on deposit in members' accounts is not touched by reciplocation, except to transfer between paypal and HSBC.
Interest is currently not paid on members' money in reciplocation accounts.
17. Can you give examples of how reciplocation suits differing member requirements?Certainly: here are a few examples of how members may take advantage of our system
Example 1. A
retired couple from New Zealand are going to Europe for a six month
holiday. They have gained some points from having members stay in their
home over the last year, and plan to have their home stayed in whilst
overseas. They have already arranged some exchanges in the UK and
France, and also have the use of another members spare car. They plan to arrange more exchanges while they are away. Any shortfall of points in their account can be topped up by them purchasing points on
line. Example
2.
A member from New York has a small condo on a ski field in Colorado.
He stays in the condo for two months during the ski season and for one
month during summer, but for the rest of the year he makes it available
to reciplocation members. He has no other time available for vacation
because of work, so at the end of every year he simply cashes in his
account, which pays for the upkeep and maintenance of his property.
Example 3. A couple from South
Africa often travel, but do not like people using their assets. They
simply purchase points on line for their
exchanges. This works out a lot more cost effective and comfortable
than staying in hotels or renting cars. Also notes from members in the members'
classifieds helps them discover restaurants and places they would
otherwise not know even existed! Example
4. A couple from Singapore have a son going to university in the UK.
They decided to rent out their son's bedroom to reciplocation members.
The points they gain are then transferred to another member's account
whose room their son stays in, in the UK.
Example 5. An
expat couple in Hong Kong are often away, so they put their vacant
house on reciplocation. They use the points they gain to go to the
Shangri-La Rasa Ria golf resort in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia once every
few months. In this way their holidays to Malayasia are effectively
free! They also have some fly fishing tours lined up in New Zealand in
the summer - again through reciplocation. Example 6. A guest house owner in Argentina sometimes uses reciplocation when there are vacancies in her bookings. In this way she gains points, and uses these to go on an RV tour through the USA.
